Bei der Optimierung von Sensornetzwerken muss eine Vielzahl von Problemen berücksichtigt werden, die sich aus begrenzten Energiereserven, Rechenleistung, Kommunikationsfähigkeiten und selbstverwaltenden Sensorknoten ergeben. Die Simulationsumgebung ns-2 ist ein flexibles Werkzeug für Netzwerkingenieure, um zu untersuchen, wie verschiedene Protokolle mit unterschiedlichen Konfigurationen und Topologien funktionieren. In diesem Projekt wird die Erweiterung des Netzwerksimulators 2 um den Rahmen für drahtlose Sensornetzwerke vorgestellt, so dass deren Anwendungen mit dem Simulator simuliert werden können. Dieses Projekt veranschaulicht auch ihren Nutzen mit einem Experiment, das das Routing in einem dynamischen Sensornetzwerk (MANET) untersucht.
