De nombreuses encres d’imprimerie utilisent des solvants volatils dans leur formulation, qui sont dangereux pour l’environnement en raison de l’émission de COV. Par ailleurs, les résines synthétiques contenues dans ces encres ne sont pas biodégradables. Ces problèmes, ainsi que la fluctuation et l’augmentation du prix du pétrole, sont les principales raisons de rechercher de nouvelles ressources pour fabriquer des encres d’impression plus respectueuses de l’environnement. La majorité des encres à base d’eau disponibles dans le commerce sont formulées à partir de résines acryliques, de colorants synthétiques, de solvants/eau et d’additifs, qui sont les principaux composants courants des encres d’imprimerie. Dans cette recherche, les protéines de soja ont été testées pour leur aptitude à remplacer partiellement ou totalement les résines acryliques en émulsion dans les encres d’emballage à base d’eau.
