Encounters With the Outcast is a collection of short encounters inspired by different scenarios I experienced when I first began launching out on my own after college.I had entered a new season of independence-excited about life, meeting new people, making my own decisions, and discovering a world beyond the protected environment I had known. I was educated, but there were some lessons that could never be learned in a classroom. Life became one of my greatest teachers. With independence came choices, relationships, unexpected encounters, warning signs, disappointments, and situations that required a level of discernment I had not yet developed. Some experiences were exciting. Others were confusing. Some taught me about people, while others revealed things I needed to learn about myself.Looking back, I can see moments when wisdom was speaking, but I did not recognize its voice. There were times when I trusted what someone said instead of paying attention to what their actions revealed. There were situations when I needed stronger boundaries, greater discernment, and the confidence to simply walk away. These stories are not written to glorify poor decisions or condemn anyone for making them. They are shared because sometimes experience teaches what innocence does not yet know.Although certain names, details, and circumstances have been changed or fictionalized for privacy and storytelling purposes, the lessons behind these encounters are deeply personal. They represent a young woman learning how to navigate independence, relationships, attraction, trust, disappointment, and ultimately, wisdom. If you recognize yourself somewhere within these pages, my hope is that you will not read with shame or regret. Read with discernment. Look for the lesson. Recognize the warning signs. Ask yourself what you would do differently today. Most importantly, remember this:You can survive an encounter without allowing it to define your life. You can learn from yesterday, walk in greater wisdom today, and make better choices tomorrow.- Cynthia D. Johnson
