Il petrolio viene prodotto sotto forma di emulsione A/O, dove l’acqua proveniente dal giacimento e/o dai metodi di recupero si disperde sotto forma di goccioline nel mezzo oleoso continuo. L’acqua prodotta deve essere rimossa dall’olio perché, oltre a non avere valore economico, genera costi operativi. Tuttavia, l’emulsione di olio può avere un’elevata stabilità cinetica dovuta alla presenza di sostanze anfifiliche naturalmente presenti nell’olio, come asfalteni e resine, rendendo difficile la separazione dell’acqua dall’olio. Le emulsioni possono essere destabilizzate attraverso processi fisici e/o chimici, compreso l’uso di tensioattivi. Questo libro fornisce una rassegna approfondita dei lavori recenti sulla demulsificazione chimica del petrolio, valutando le condizioni di processo e le caratteristiche dei tensioattivi sull’efficienza della separazione dell’acqua dal petrolio.
