Emboscada en Dallas se puede clasificar dentro del subgénero de la novela histórica, que en ocasiones se acerca al género ensayístico. Su narrativa dibuja los sentimientos y emociones de los personajes de la época. No solo se limita a relatar los sucesos, sino que va más allá al describir un enjambre de intrigas, donde la emboscada referida es solo un asunto más dentro de la compleja etapa de lo que se ha venido a llamarse «Guerra Fría», conflicto en el que el asesinato del presidente Kennedy juega un papel importante. La teoría del autor se basa en la mucha documentación cotejada y analizada de diversas fuentes escritas y documentales publicados hasta el momento, donde personajes famosos, muchos, fueron jueces, y otros tantos, parte de unos hechos que cambiaron el curso de la historia. En ese juego de la «Seguridad Nacional», muchos testigos perdieron la vida por el único error de saber demasiado o estar en un lugar equivocado.
