Esse livro foi originado na dissertação de mestrado cuja pesquisa buscou analisar a obra A Rainha do Ignoto, escrita por Emília Freitas e publicada em 1899, considerada um dos primeiros romances de literatura fantástica no Brasil.Apresenta-se aqui a perspectiva de subversão dos padrões do século XIX com a abordagem do tema, até então pouco trabalhado na literatura nacional: a emancipação feminina. Assim, se especula que o fantástico da obra dá voz à mulher que é sistematicamente silenciada, através da análise sobre a personagem Funesta, caracterizando-a como o principal elemento do fantástico que irrompe na realidade da obra. 10
