Le inondazioni nelle città brasiliane sono considerate un problema ambientale e sociale. Questo fenomeno è causato dall’impermeabilizzazione del suolo e dall’urbanizzazione di massa, che in Brasile avviene in modo disordinato e senza la necessaria pianificazione strutturale. Il Piano di Protezione Civile Preventivo è stato utilizzato per definire le misure organizzative per le azioni e le responsabilità di tutte le parti interessate. Attualmente, il Sistema Informativo Geografico viene utilizzato ampiamente per classificare le aree a rischio di inondazione. Questo studio si propone di calcolare, utilizzando il software ArcGIS 10, le aree a rischio di inondazione nel comune di Tatuí, ponderate in base alla mappa delle pendenze e ai dati sull’accumulo di acqua durante le precipitazioni e sulla zonizzazione urbana.
