Este libro indaga en ciertas regiones de la obra de José Antonio Ramos Sucre desde nuevos horizontes culturales y discursivos que hacen visible la relación conflictiva entre algunos elementos representativos de su escritura y la conformación del archivo republicano, especialmente en la versión que surge a comienzos del siglo xx, con el nuevo Estado moderno. Es desde ese lugar de pugna y tensión que muestra cómo se sitúan de manera crítica los trabajos del autor venezolano y sus diversas herencias, al tiempo que evidencia las varias modalidades en las que se ha actualizado su conflicto con los relatos nacionales.Juan Cristóbal Castro realizó sus estudios doctorales en la Universidad de California y su maestría de literatura comparada en la Universidad Central de Venezuela. Fue profesor de la Universidad Simón Bolívar (Caracas) y de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Bogotá). Ha publicado los volúmenes de ensayo Alfabeto del caos: crítica y ficción en Paul Valéry y Jorge Luis Borges (2009) e Idiomas espectrales: lenguas imaginarias en la literatura latinoamericana (2016). Actualmente es profesor de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Chile.
