Este libro es ante todo el saldo de una deuda. El Gabinete de Arqueología de la Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad de la Habana tras una veintena de años cumplidos carecía en el año 2006 de una publicación que teorizara sobre las líneas teóricas metodológicas seguidas en sus investigaciones en tantos años de trabajo. El resultado de todo esto generó un amplio colchón de informes de excavaciones e investigaciones, algunos de ellos con enfoques teóricos sobre las posiciones en boga dentro de la disciplina arqueológica para las décadas de los ochenta y noventa de la centuria pasada, que abrían nuevos caminos para nuestra disciplina. Este estudio consigue en el año 2006 sacar a la luz, siguiendo una línea histórica, los resultados de algunos de estos trabajos evaluados bajo preceptos que analizan el lugar que le tocó a cada uno de ellos dentro de la línea de desarrollo teórico-metodológico advertido.
