El pescador de azares se basa en la historia de Benjamín, un anciano que ve su vida en el lento pasar del tiempo a través de largas horas sentado junto al río, en las que atraviesa por una serie de incertidumbres de su pasado y de su presente. Cada recuerdo que evoca lo llena de nostalgia y lo hace pensar en las formas que ha tomado el destino para llevarlo a un profundo estado de soledad y de pobreza. A pesar de todo, mantiene esperanzas e ilusiones que lo ayudan a seguir resistiendo.A través de esta novela corta, Isadora Muñoz logra desentrañar creencias, formas de vida y temores absorbentes mientras sigue de cerca a su personaje principal, un humilde pescador que desnuda su alma frente al río, en el ambiente folclórico y natural de los Llanos Orientales de Colombia, donde reina la riqueza de fauna y flora.La narrativa es cuidadosa y profundamente humana, en un lenguaje que describe aquellos detalles que evocan en el lector la misma sensibilidad del universo literario de esta novela, manteniendo un tono de reflexión mediante el diálogo que Benjamín ha logrado consigo mismo mientras da continuidad a su existencia humilde.
