El misterio del aceite (2018) cuenta la historia de un niño palestino de 12 años que, con ayuda de su pandilla de animales y gracias al secreto de un olivo milenario, conseguirá traspasar los muros de la prisión que lo separan de su padre, a quien no ha visto nunca. El relato comienza cuando se está preparando para encontrarse con él por primera vez. Sin embargo, recibe la noticia de que «por razones de seguridad» su visita ha sido cancelada. El misterio del aceite brota de la fantasía infantil, palpa la realidad y dice a los lectores adolescentes y adultos que la única arma aceptable es el conocimiento. Su autor, Walid Daqqa, dedicó esta narración a los niños y niñas que se hacen adultos antes de tiempo y a los adultos a quienes la cárcel priva del sabor de la infancia. El original de El misterio del aceite (Hikayat sirr al-zayt), publicado por el prestigioso Tamer Institute for Community Education de Ramala, recibió en 2018 el premio a la mejor novela árabe juvenil del año, concedido por Etisalat Sharjah Award. Ésta es la primera versión en una lengua occidental.
