’Don Carlos María Isidro de Borbón (1788-1855) fue espectador y protagonista de su convulso tiempo: la crisis del Antiguo Régimen y las luchas entre sus defensores y sus detractores revolucionarios en Europa y América. Este infante se puso al frente de aquellos españoles que decidieron defender el modo de vida tradicional, las costumbres y usos antiguos, la confesionalidad de la sociedad, bajo el trilema Dios, patria y rey. Su vida discurrió durante la guerra de la Independencia, las luchas armadas entre realistas y liberales que eclosionaron en la guerra de los Siete Años o Primera Guerra Carlista, donde sus partidarios le defendieron como legítimo monarca de España. La victoria de los isabelinos en 1840 provocó su exilio por diversos reinos europeos, abdicando su derechos históricos a la Corona en su hijo mayor, Carlos Luis, con la esperanza de facilitar una reconciliación política. Un personaje singular para una época fascinante. 10
