Por su parte, Rafael Heliodoro Valle dijo de este libro de cuentos (publicado en 1936) que 'Carías Reyes tiene clara significancia en la nueva generación literaria de Honduras, al lado de Arturo Mejía Nieto, Medardo Mejía y José R. Castro'. Pero no hay que confundirse. Germinal está lejos de ser un 'libro ingenuo con alma de adolescente'. Sus cuentos son intensos, fantasmagóricos, trágicos, dolorosos, marcados por el destino. Un monje seducido por un amor prohibido, un carnaval de locos o la misteriosa mujer, cuya seducción está asociada a lo exótico y fatal, son solo algunas de las historias que Carías Reyes -considerado el padre del género literario conocido como el criollismo- presenta en esta obra.  MARCOS CARÍAS REYES. Nació el 19 de diciembre de 1905 en Tegucigalpa, ciudad en la que fallecería el 24 de octubre de 1949.
