En toda vida humana existe, por lo menos, un romance de amor frustrado, que deja un poso amargo de belleza y melancolía en el alma. En el presente libro expongo mis primeras impresiones amorosas plasmadas en un pequeño poemario que titulé EL FUEGO Y EL FRÍO. Es como una suave tentativa, como un dulce escarceo, en el mundo amable y plácido de los sentimientos íntimos. Narro en él mi pequeña y olvidada historia de amor. Pasó, sí, pero afincó con tanta fuerza en mí que durante mucho tiempo fue objeto de innumerables composiciones sentimentales que expuse en este título y otros títulos posteriores. Al final he añadido algunas de estas composiciones en la segunda parte bajo el título de OTROS POEMAS DE AMOR, con el objeto de completar el libro.
