Since the formation of the early states in Mesopotamia, Egypt, China and the Indus Valley, as well as Mesoamerica, Aridoamérica or the Andes, the location of urban spaces next to seas, rivers, lagoons and other hydrological formations has been fundamental to progress achieved. The contributors to this book analyse daily and symbolic use of water, discussing its management, use, distribution and associated hydraulic technology within the context of cultures from Mesoamerica and Aridoamérica.
