Badanie to pokazuje, że cytokina interleukina (IL)-17, która jest ważnym przekaźnikiem pośredniczącym w przekazywaniu sygnałów z komórek odpornościowych do komórek nabłonka, ulega ciągłej ekspresji w sposób bardzo specyficzny dla choroby w obrębie 30 najczęstszych histologicznie diagnozowalnych chorób skóry. Zaskakującym odkryciem jest to, że nie tylko limfocyty T, jak już wiadomo, ale także granulocyty są komórkowym źródłem IL-17. Ma to bezpośrednie konsekwencje kliniczne i terapeutyczne.
