In den letzten Jahren hat das Gebiet der Elektrochemie fester Stoffe sprunghaft an Bedeutung gewonnen. Ein Zeichen dafUr ist die wachsende Zahl der Veroffentlichungen auf diesem Gebiet. Mit Hilfe von festen Ionenleitem - festen Elektrolyten - werden sHindig mehr galvanische Ketten fUr thermodynamische oder kinetische Untersuchungen und technische Anwendungen gebaut. Ziel dieses Buches ist es, eine EinfUhrung in die Elektrochemie fester Stoffe zu geben, wobei besonderer Wert auf die Grundlagen gelegt wird. Es ist also kein Handbuch mit moglichst vollstiindiger Berlicksichtigung der Literatur. Umfangreichere Darstellungen einzelner Teilgebiete sind an anderer Stelle vorhanden und werden im Text erwiihnt. Voraus­ setzung zum Lesen des Buches sind Grundkenntnisse in der physikali­ schen Chemie, besonders in der Thermodynamik. Die einzelnen Kapitel sind so geschrieben, daB sie weitgehend unabhiingig voneinander ge­ lesen werden konnen. Flir die Entstehung dieses Buches waren wichtige Impulse, Anregungen und Hilfen durch Fachkollegen und Mitarbeiter von Bedeutung. Be­ sonders wertvoll waren hierbei meine Kontakte mit C. WAGNER, der auch freundlicherweise das Manuskript dieses Buches gelesen hat. Flir die kritische Durchsicht und die Hilfe beim Korrekturlesen danke ich W. WEPPNER.
