Quellfähige Böden sind aufgrund ihrer natürlichen Fähigkeit, bei Veränderungen des Feuchtigkeitsgehalts Volumenänderungen zu unterliegen, äußerst problematisch. Sie quellen bei Aufnahme von Wasser in der Regenzeit auf und schrumpfen wieder, wenn das Wasser im Sommer verdunstet. Infolgedessen werden leicht belastete Tiefbauinfrastrukturen, die auf diesen Böden errichtet wurden, schwer beschädigt. Zur Minderung der durch quellfähige Böden verursachten Probleme wurden viele innovative Fundamentierungskonzepte vorgeschlagen. Einige dieser Techniken umfassen physikalische und chemische Veränderungen sowie spezielle Fundamentierungstechniken in Form von zugfesten Fundamenten. Diese Monografie präsentiert experimentelle Arbeiten zur effektiven Verwendung von Kalk und Flugasche zur Verringerung der Quell- und Schrumpfung von quellfähigen Böden. Die durchgeführten Tests zur Ermittlung des Quellpotenzials, des Quelldrucks und anderer wichtiger technischer Eigenschaften der mit Kalk und Flugasche vermischten quellfähigen Tonproben haben nützliche Ergebnisse geliefert.
