Die Studie kommt zu dem Schluss, dass die Karpfenzucht in Meghalaya, insbesondere in den West Garo Hills, wirtschaftlich lebensfähig ist und eine entscheidende Rolle dabei spielen kann, die Abhängigkeit des Bundesstaates von Fischimporten zu verringern. Weit verbreitete Ineffizienzen beim Einsatz von Betriebsmitteln in Verbindung mit strukturellen Zwängen wie Saatgut- und Futtermittelknappheit und unzureichendem Marktzugang schränken jedoch die Leistungsfähigkeit des Sektors ein. Obwohl die Rentabilität offensichtlich ist, sind Effizienzsteigerungen und institutionelle Unterstützung für die Ausweitung der Produktion unerlässlich.Ein nachhaltiges staatliches Engagement, ergänzt durch Bauernkooperativen und die Beteiligung des Privatsektors, wird für die Ausschöpfung des Fischproduktionspotenzials des Bundesstaates von entscheidender Bedeutung sein. Durch die Bewältigung der festgestellten Herausforderungen kann Meghalaya die Selbstversorgung mit Fisch anstreben, den Lebensunterhalt im ländlichen Raum verbessern und zu den übergeordneten Zielen der Nahrungsmittel- und Ernährungssicherheit beitragen.
