Die Stilistik ist ein kritischer Ansatz, der die Methoden und Erkenntnisse linguistischer Muster nutzt. Sie untersucht, wie die Leser mit der Sprache literarischer Texte interagieren, um zu erklären, wie die Leser Texte verstehen und von ihnen beeinflusst werden, wenn sie sie lesen. Dieser Ansatz ist ein Instrument dafür, wie ein Autor die Sprache verwendet, die in seinen Schriften dargestellt wird. Jeder Autor von Belletristik hat einen eigenen Stil. Der Stil eines Autors basiert auf vielen Entscheidungen über Diktion, Satzstruktur, Details, Dialoge, literarische Mittel und Rhythmus. Der Stil des Schriftstellers ergibt sich aus der Diktion oder der Wortwahl, die er/sie verwendet. Verwendet der Autor eine einfache oder eine komplexe Sprache? Ist die Sprache konkret oder abstrakt? Der Stil des Autors ergibt sich aus der Art der Satzstruktur, die er/sie verwendet. Verwendet der Autor kurze oder lange Sätze? Einfache oder komplexe Sätze? Das vorliegende Buch wurde mit demselben Ziel geschrieben. In diesem Buch werden Techniken der modernen Linguistik auf das Studium der Literatur angewandt.
