Kapazitätssteuerung ist eines der Kernelemente des Revenue Managements und nutzt Methoden des Operations Research. Es wird meist hinsichtlich der Annahmen über die Nachfrage und die Anzahl vorhandener Ressourcen unterschieden. Das Buch thematisiert die Kapazitätssteuerung unter Kundenwahlverhalten im (Ressourcen-) Netzwerk. Dabei gilt es zu entscheiden, zu welchem Zeitpunkt, bei welchen noch vorhandenen Kapazitäten, welchen Kunden welche Produkte angeboten werden. Ziel ist es, die vorhandenen Kapazitäten bestmöglich auszuschöpfen. Es werden Lösungsverfahren auf Basis eines Erwartungswertmodells sowie auf Basis eines approximierten dynamischen Programms vorgestellt. Innerhalb der Lösungsverfahren finden Dekomposition und Spaltengenerierung Anwendung.
