Er führt alle benötigten Begriffe ein: Lorentzgruppe, freie Felder, S-Matrix, Pfadintegral, das Eichprinzip. Ebenso erläutert er die derzeit wichtigsten physikalischen Modelltheorien der Teilchenphysik: die elektroschwache Theorie und die QCD. Renormierungstheorie und Operatorproduktentwicklung werden vorgestellt, Anomalien ausgiebig diskutiert. Insbesonders behandelt der Autor die von ihm entdeckte BRS-Symmetrie ausführlich.
