作者少小出国，在德国生活三十多年了。三四十年间旅德华人在数量、学历、经历、职业等等各方面发生了天翻地覆的变化。旅德华人，每个人有每个人的故事，每个人身上既有时代的烙印，也有个人独特的风采。作者从2016年年底开始了这个系列采访，计划花七八年的时间，走访一百位在德国生活的华人，真实客观地记录他们的人生轨迹，为旅德华人群体画像，让时代记住他们的风采。从2017年至2019年，作者走访了四十多位长期在德国生活的华人，他们有的在德国生活已经三四十年或更久，有的到德国才三四年时光，有作家、画家、设计师，有医生、老师、建筑师，摄影师，有销售总监、集团董事、陪读夫人，有博士教授、专家学者。《莱茵河畔的华人风采》收录了目前已经欧洲报刊发表的四十篇。
