Comprising 20 chapters and 492 sections, the text is primarily dialogic with supplementary narrative sections, systematically presenting the political doctrines, ethical principles, moral concepts, and pedagogical tenets of Confucius and the Confucian school. Though structured as concise sayings, its language-spare yet rich in meaning-combines clarity with profound implications. Notable for its composed, nuanced style, the work vividly portrays personalities through minimal dialogue and action while embodying a refined balance of simplicity and philosophical depth. Confucius (551-479 BCE), personal name Qiu and courtesy name Zhongni, was born in Zouyi, State of Lu (present-day Qufu, Shandong Province) during the Spring and Autumn Period.
