Joe Dullerson gives a definitive view of the chalkface with a scathing attack on schools, teaching, intellectualism and education in general. After negative experiences as a pupil at Glasgow High School and later academic disenchantment, he comes to the conclusion that education is in a mess. He considers that subjection to pointless rule-following guarantees incompetence in real life. Thus Dullerson ends up in the classroom as a jaded supply teacher. His wholly mistaken career choice brings him full circle to confront major indiscipline in state schools. Later on he escapes to the Middle East to work as a Tefler but this is hardly a bed of roses. Dullerson’s laconic commentary says it all.
