自古注解《道德经》者多如牛毛，大都从文字上下功夫。文以载道，当不拘泥于此；旁征博引，不若回归五千言。市面上的三全本，逐字逐句逐章解释道德经，看似全而无瑕，实则圉于文字，文未尽意，夹生而食；举实例以解老，虽易于入门，而又狭老子之本义。此本老子重义不重形，得鱼忘筌。虽分章节却不止以此释义，而将老子的哲学思想以一贯之，串珠成链，以老子来说老子，回归五千言。以往我们久圉文字以企寻大道，岂知其在此亦不在此。观五千言，止见文字之有形之物，故道不在此。观五千言，千言如无言，义从无中取，得意忘言，洞视幽眇，得其无言，终得其真。此书，以帛书本道德经为底版，在尽量保留原貌的基础上，将少量生僻艰涩通假字用本字替换（部分参照通行本）。帛书版原文德篇在前，道篇在后，不分章节。为了便于参学，按照通行本逐章分节，其中个别章节次序与通行本不一致，以帛书版编排。
