Easter Rising (also known as the Easter Rebellion) was an armed insurrection that took place in Ireland during Easter Week in 1916. Mounted by Irish republicans, it ended British rule and establish an independent Irish Republic. Organized by seven members of the Military Council of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, the rising was led by schoolmaster and activist Patrick Pearse.
