Cette étude se concentre sur la modalisation discursive présente dans le roman Sous l’orage de Seydou Badian. Le roman intègre des séquences discursives interactives où l’expression du moi et des effusions lyriques coexistent avec des éléments du discours social. Dès lors, cet article explore comment ce phénomène se manifeste dans l’univers discursif du roman, en tant qu’élément esthétique et significatif. Il interroge la nature de la modalisation et son impact expressif dans les discours des personnages, suggérant que cette ambivalence découle des intentions de communication des locuteurs et de leurs effets sur les colocuteurs. En s’appuyant sur les principes de la linguistique énonciative et de la linguistique de corpus, l’étude se réfère aux travaux d’Oswald Ducrot (1984) pour analyser comment les sujets parlants réactualisent la valeur expressive des énoncés modalisés, conduisant à des discours objectifs. Ainsi, cette analyse met en lumière une dynamique expressive de la modalisation au-delà de son rôle traditionnel de véhiculer la subjectivité langagière, soulignant l’importance des choix énonciatifs dans la construction du sens des énoncés.
