Drzewa zapewniają cień, regulują klimat, sprawiają, że otoczenie jest bardziej przyjazne, wychwytują zanieczyszczenia z powietrza i zapobiegają powodziom w podmokłych miastach. Jednak ze względów kulturowych są one uważane za negatywne przez ludność: liście zatykają rynny, korzenie niszczą chodniki, pnie i wierzchołki przeszkadzają przewodom, a przede wszystkim są podatne na upadki. Niniejsza książka składa się z sześciu rozdziałów, z których pierwszy stanowi krótkie wprowadzenie do tematu. Drugi zawiera szeroki przegląd wpływu zmiennych klimatycznych na upadki drzew w Piracicaba/SP/Brazylia, z naciskiem na wiatr. Zidentyfikowano regiony, w których koncentrują się upadki i podatność gatunków. Trzeci rozdział określa ilościowo wskaźnik powierzchni liści (LAI) dla różnych drzew ulicznych, co było podstawą do przeprowadzenia kolejnych czterech i pięciu studiów przypadku z wykorzystaniem symulacji mikroklimatu za pomocą oprogramowania ENVI-met v3.1, w celu zrozumienia zachowania obszaru w określonych warunkach. Ostatni rozdział podsumowuje główne ustalenia. Do dzieła!
