Dripping Honey is the story of a young boy’s obsession with the arrival of black American GIs into his hometown in 1942. He experiences the infectious energy and distinctive rhythms imported by the visitors and recounts the excitement, confusion, sexual tension and racial confrontation which disrupt the stark routine of working class family life. Based on a true story, Dripping Honey is a stirring and sometimes heart-rending account of the vagaries of wartime subsistence in Britain. It reveals the inexorable yielding of adults to profit from adversity and is a reminder of children’s relentless pursuit of adventure.
