Porażenie mózgowe (CP) jest uważane za poważną niepełnosprawność fizyczną wśród zaburzeń rozwoju dziecięcego, wpływającą na rozwój funkcjonalny dzieci. Zaburzeniom motorycznym CP mogą towarzyszyć zaburzenia czucia, funkcji poznawczych, komunikacji, percepcji, zachowania oraz napady padaczkowe. Mężczyźni sprawujący opiekę nad dziećmi są opisywani przez badaczy jako „trudno dostępni', „niewidzialni rodzice' i „rodzice drugoplanowi'. Mężczyźni sprawujący opiekę nad dziećmi potrzebują wszelkiego wsparcia i informacji, jakie mogą uzyskać od specjalistów, ponieważ wychowywanie niepełnosprawnego dziecka może być przygnębiające i mogą nie wiedzieć, jak pomóc dziecku ze specjalnymi potrzebami i jak się nim opiekować.
