Rzemieślnicze rybołówstwo jest coraz częściej postrzegane jako panaceum na eksploatację zasobów morskich na wybrzeżu Ghany. Jednak dowody zebrane na przestrzeni lat wskazują, że lokalni rybacy zajmujący się rybołówstwem na małą skalę rzadko mają pełny udział w podejmowaniu decyzji dotyczących tych zasobów. W niniejszym badaniu przeanalizowano czynniki ograniczające udział rybaków w procesie decyzyjnym oraz wpływ tych czynników na strategie adaptacyjne dotyczące ich środków utrzymania. Zbadano również słabe punkty i strategie adaptacyjne rybaków wiejskich. Łącząc podejście oparte na środkach utrzymania z ramami analizy instytucjonalnej, zebrano dane poprzez wywiady z kluczowymi informatorami ze społeczności rybackich Chorkor i Nungua w regionie Greater Accra w Ghanie. W procesie gromadzenia danych wykorzystano również analizę dokumentów i obserwacje. Dane zostały przeanalizowane przy użyciu metod analizy danych Milesa i Hubermana (1994).
