Don Quixote: An Epic Poem - Part I is a poetic version of Don Quixote told in galloping rhyming verse. Miguel Cervante’s enigmatic and brilliant novel was originally published in 1605 in Spain and is widely regarded as the most influential and first modern novel in western literature. The story concerns one Alonso Quijano, a minor member of the nobility who is so enamoured of chivalric books of adventure and romance that he resolves to bring back the age of chivalry as a knight-errant. He dons plated armour, rides out on his horse Rozinante and recruits a local peasant, one Sancho Panza as his unlikely squire as they adventure around the La Mancha region of central Spain.They encounter all sorts of characters and situations, some comic, some serious along with lots of tales and stories told on the way. Some people humour him, some trick him some people oppose him but slowly and surely many come to admire him for refusing to see the world not as it is but how it could be. Quixote is a dreamer in action who through his deeds seeks to right wrongs, protect the afflicted and live by the chivalric code all done in the name of his muse, Lady Dulcinea del Toboso. This poetic version recounts with humour and affection the greatest double act in literature as Quixote & Panza as they win, lose and even occasionally triumph together to their immortal fame.
