Domestic accidents are unintentional injuries that occur in everyday life, either in the home or its immediate vicinity. They are major public health problems worldwide because they cause numerous deaths, especially among children. However, given that governments are more focused on combating infectious diseases and nutritional deficiencies, these injuries are poorly documented and their epidemiology is not well understood. In Cameroon, very few studies have been published on this topic, thus justifying this study, whose objective was to determine the characteristics and factors associated with poor prognosis in household accidents among children. To this end, we conducted a 5-year retrospective study covering the period from January 2012 to December 2016 at the Yaoundé Gynecological, Obstetric, and Pediatric Hospital. Over a 4-month period (January through April 2017), the medical records of children aged 0 to 15 years hospitalized for household accidents were collected, with patients selected on a consecutive basis.
