Al-Zarqa (Jordânia) enfrenta problemas ambientais graves causados pela urbanização e industrialização rápidas e descontroladas. A cidade abriga a empresa refinadora de petróleo da Jordânia (JPRC). A JPRC é a única fornecedora de todos os produtos petrolíferos para o mercado local. O solo é um bom indicador de poluição e riscos ambientais. A identificação das fontes de poluentes é um passo importante na gestão da qualidade ambiental. Neste estudo, foi utilizada a análise fatorial para identificar possíveis fontes dos poluentes medidos. A distribuição espacial é o processo de utilizar pontos com valores conhecidos para prever valores noutros pontos. Os dados espaciais descrevem a localização dos pontos de amostragem, enquanto os dados atributos descrevem as características dos dados espaciais, ou seja, a concentração de contaminantes nos pontos de amostragem. A implementação do Kriging para investigar a interpolação espacial é um procedimento em duas etapas. A primeira etapa envolve a quantificação da variação espacial e a segunda etapa a interpolação do valor do atributo em locais não amostrados. A variação espacial é quantificada pelo semivariograma, enquanto a interpolação é feita pelo método Kriging.
