Como dice Carolina Trivelli en el prólogo a esta reedición, las preguntas que se hicieron los autores hace más de 40 años respecto a la desigualdad y la pobreza aún siguen vigentes: “Por ello su reedición, lectura y debate son esenciales para ampliar las discusiones actuales sobre cómo y por qué debemos seguir tomando acciones para reducir la desigualdad de ingresos y eliminar la pobreza en el Perú”.“Hay mucho que ha cambiado entre lo que presentan y discuten estos textos de Webb y Figueroa, y hay mucho que se produjo en nuestras ciencias sociales a partir de este trabajo en materia de desigualdad y pobreza en el Perú; pero también hay mucho que sigue igual.
