A escolha deste estudo baseou-se na constatação de que os jovens estudantes das escolas apresentam um entusiasmo excessivo pela prática de jogo e dinheiro (JAI), prática que está em voga na maioria das cidades do nosso país. O facto é que estes jovens acreditam fortemente em ideias falsas (distorções cognitivas) segundo as quais é muito óbvio ganhar facilmente o máximo de dinheiro possível depois de uma aposta. O principal objetivo deste trabalho é evidenciar a ligação que existe entre as distorções cognitivas e a prática de JAI entre os jovens estudantes. Um estudo utilizando um questionário autoaplicável foi utilizado para recolher os dados. O software SPSS 20 permitiu-nos analisar os dados. O teste descritivo correlacional de Pearson foi realizado para analisar os dados de 112 alunos da Nkolbikon Technical High School. Os nossos resultados mostram que: a ilusão de controlo está positivamente ligada à prática de jogo entre os jovens estudantes, com um coeficiente de correlação de r = 0,37 e p ​​​​= 0,01.
