O Egipto é um dos países que está a atravessar grandes desafios políticos e sociais que criaram condições económicas difíceis para os seus cidadãos. As mulheres, entre outros membros vulneráveis da sociedade egípcia, continuam a enfrentar várias desigualdades nos domínios económico e social e, por isso, requerem maior atenção na formulação de novas políticas de desenvolvimento social e económico. Este livro questiona a interpretação do Estado egípcio das questões relacionadas com o género na formulação de novas políticas de desenvolvimento social e económico após a revolução de 2012-2015. Questiona também as diferenças entre os discursos de género nas políticas do governo egípcio e as propostas políticas da sociedade civil. O livro explora a forma como ambos os discursos moldam o contexto socioeconómico das mulheres no Egipto e reflectem as desigualdades de género no mercado de trabalho, no contexto dos desafios sociais, económicos e políticos do Egipto.
