The author began working on his genealogy at the age of fourteen. His work began with researching his Spanish ancestry going back to the thirteen hundreds. After he completed that genealogy he moved forward by researching the marriages of his Spanish ancestors to Indigenous women who were his ancestors within the Maldonado family group. The author tested his mtDNA and those results confirmed his Indigenous ancestry. The author then had is Genome tested and the results yielded thirty one percent Indigenous DNA. The author then began studying scientific journals written about genetic testing of ancient Indigenous assemblages. He found seven matches to his mtDNA sequences in Cuba and the Dominican Republic. The author then upgraded his mtDNA to a full study. Family Tree’s new DNA test yielded 29 matches within the ancient Taino assemblage studies. The woman who is the most recent common ancestor of this line is estimated to have been born around 800 BCE.
