As reivindicações feitas por estas comunidades, tanto a nível nacional como regional, sob a égide do direito dos povos indígenas à terra, revelaram graves lacunas. Este livro apresenta os mecanismos legais e institucionais que protegem o direito dos povos indígenas à terra ao abrigo da Carta Africana, analisa as fraquezas da Carta e o impacto da vontade política a nível nacional e regional. O livro conclui com uma série de recomendações destinadas a reforçar a proteção desses direitos.
