Lena is twee jaar, als ze enorm veel begint te drinken. Na een lange, onzekere en ook angstige periode, volgde de diagnose diabetes insipidus, oftewel water diabetes. Na verder onderzoek werd duidelijk dat Lena de zeer zeldzame ziekte LCH heeft (Langerhanscelhistiocytose). De gevolgen hiervan zijn meestal te behandelen, maar de oorzaak is tot nu toe onbekend. Doordat Lena en haar broertje Remo nog zo klein zijn, is het lastig uit te leggen waarom Lena steeds naar het ziekenhuis moet en medicijnen krijgt waar ze zich soms slecht van gaat voelen. Elk moment dat we samen in het ziekenhuis doorbrachten, bedachten we daarom samen verhaaltjes die de situaties begrijpelijker maakten en haar helpen de behandelingen zonder angst te doorgaan. Daaruit is dit boekje ontstaan.
