The short-story, is one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature, despite its relative youth. This was influenced by western and literary concepts and tendencies, as well as the contemporary industrial and mechanized environment. The characters in Farida Zain’s stories are caught up in political, social and economic conflicts, and it is this contradiction and conflict that creates the true meaning of life and artistic insight in her stories.
