Digital prosthodontics is the application of digital technologies such as CAD/CAM systems, intraoral scanners, CBCT imaging, and 3D printing in the diagnosis, treatment planning, and fabrication of dental prostheses. It has transformed conventional prosthodontics by improving precision, efficiency, and patient comfort. Digital workflows enable accurate recording of oral structures, virtual treatment planning, and computer-guided implant placement. In implant prosthodontics, digital planning allows fabrication of surgical guides, custom abutments, and implant-supported restorations with high accuracy. Complete dentures, removable partial dentures, crowns, bridges, veneers, inlays, and onlays can be digitally designed and manufactured through milling or 3D printing. Common materials include zirconia, lithium disilicate, titanium, cobalt-chromium alloys, PMMA, and printable resins. Digital smile design enhances esthetic evaluation and patient communication. Major advantages include reduced chair side time, improved fit, predictable outcomes, easy storage of records, reproducibility, and better collaboration between clinicians and laboratories.
