Dieses Buch ist das Ergebnis einer Untersuchung, die in der Stadt João Pessoa-PB durchgeführt wurde. Ziel war es, einen Überblick über das Bandprojekt der Abteilung für Bildung und Kultur (SEDEC) zu erhalten. Das Projekt läuft seit mehr als zwei Jahrzehnten und ist in Schulen angesiedelt, die außerschulische musikalische Aktivitäten anbieten, vor allem das Üben von Marschkapellen. Im Folgenden gebe ich Auskunft über das Profil der Dirigenten, die den Stab des Projekts bilden, das in den Bands verwendete Repertoire und erörtere die Unterrichtskonzepte, die die Praxis der Bands in den städtischen Schulen leiten, sowie die pädagogische Funktion des Projekts aus der Sicht der Dirigenten. Ich reflektiere auch über die Ausbildung der Dirigenten und die Arbeitsbedingungen, die das Projekt bietet.
