Dieses Buch ist das Ergebnis einer Forschungsarbeit, die im Rahmen eines Masterstudiengangs in Sozialgeschichte durchgeführt wurde. Ziel war die Untersuchung und Analyse der Zeitungen Cruzeiro do Sul und Diário de Sorocaba in der Zeit der Errichtung und Konsolidierung des autoritären Staates, als Brasilien nacheinander vom Militär regiert wurde. Durch die Untersuchung der Leitartikel dieser beiden Zeitungen, der wichtigsten in der Stadt zu jener Zeit, war es möglich, die Beziehung zwischen der Weltanschauung der Gruppe, die diese Zeitschriften bildete, und der nationalen Situation zu erkennen.
