Im Rahmen dieser Untersuchung wurde der Crack-Konsum aus einer psychosozialen Perspektive analysiert, wobei das Phänomen in seiner sozialen Funktion betrachtet wurde. Crack wird somit in seiner sozialen Funktion, seiner Einbindung in das tägliche Leben der Menschen und seiner Funktion als Interaktionsinstrument verstanden. Es handelt sich also um eine Studie, die die Individuen in den Mittelpunkt stellt, die Crack in ihren alltäglichen Beziehungen, in den Aktivitäten, die ihr tägliches Leben prägen, konsumieren. Es geht also nicht darum, die Pathologien und Probleme, die sich aus dieser Praxis ergeben, zu untersuchen, sondern vielmehr die Erfahrungen, die sie machen.
