Die Geschichte der höheren Bildung und der Universitäten in der Demokratischen Republik Kongo (DRK) ist reich und komplex und von politischen, sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Entwicklungen geprägt. Für die Gründung von Hochschulen in der Demokratischen Republik Kongo (DRK) gab es mehrere wichtige Gründe, sowohl in sozialer als auch in wirtschaftlicher und politischer Hinsicht. Die Hochschulbildung wurde von den belgischen Kolonialherren von (1885-1960) hauptsächlich durch missionarische Einrichtungen eingeführt. Die ersten Einrichtungen waren dazu bestimmt, afrikanische Eliten auszubilden.Die in diesen Einrichtungen ausgebildeten Kongolesen waren häufig dazu bestimmt, Verwaltungsposten zu übernehmen
