Das vorliegende B'uch entspringt einer Gedankenrichtung, die ich fruher als Pharmakologe bei Beschaftigung mit theoretisch-medizinischen Fragen, jetzt in der Klinik bei der Erfassung von Krankheitsbildern verfolgt habe. - DaJ3 die Elektrolyte eine hervorragende Rolle bei der Zellfunktion spielen, ist durch die Arbeiten der letzten Jahrzehnte erwiesen worden. Gefordert wurde die Erforschung der Elektrolytwirkung insbesondere durch die Ein­ fiihrung der physikalisch- bzw. kolloidchemischen Betrachtungsweise in die Biologie. Dieses Buch stellt den Versuch dar, auf Grund des vorhandenen Tat­ sachenmaterials und eigener Untersuchungen den Elektrolyten ihren Platz im Rahmen des Gesamtzellgeschehens anzuweisen. Auch solI es dazu bei­ tragen, die Grundlagen fur eine funktionelle Betrachtungsweise der Lebens­ vorgange auszubauen. DaJ3 dies notwendig ist, wird wohl von niemand mehr bezweifelt; denn immer deutlicher erkennen wir, daJ3 die rein morpho­ logische Betrachtungsweise der Zelle keineswegs ausreicht, um das Wesen der physiologischen und pathologischen Zellvorgange in befriedigender Weise analysieren zu konnen.
