Wissenschaftliche Studie aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Allgemeines, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Es wird angenommen, dass die Stadt Pompeji im I. Jahrhundert unserer Zeitrechnung untergegangen ist und danach über 1500 Jahre unter einer Decke aus vulkanischer Asche und Bimsstein begraben lag, bis im Jahre 1592 Domenico Fontana bei Kanalbauarbeiten einige Inschriften und Marmortafeln entdeckte, die indirekt auf die Lage der antiken Stadt wiesen. In dem vorliegenden Artikel werden die Beweisgründe zugunsten einer anderen Hypothese angeführt, nämlich dass Pompeji erst nach der Fertigstellung des Kanals verschüttet wurde, und dass dieser in einer zwar halbverfallenen, aber noch von vulkanischer Asche freien Stadt gebaut wurde. Der Artikel präsentiert die bisher nur teilweise im Internet publizierten Ergebnisse einer Vor-Ort-Untersuchung des Autors und vertritt seine Meinung, dass die Stadt Pompeji, die im Laufe der letzten 200 Jahren von Archäologen ausgegraben wird, erst 1631 beim Ausbruch des Vesuvs letztendlich untergegangen ist.
