Psycho-Onkologie ist die Verbindung von Psychologie und Onkologie, die auf eine multidisziplinäre Betreuung in Krebszentren abzielt, um die Akzeptanz der Diagnose zu verbessern, den Patienten während des gesamten Behandlungsprozesses zu helfen und sie in den verheerenden und oft verstümmelnden Situationen zu unterstützen, die die Behandlung verursacht. Psychologen spielen eine wichtige Rolle bei der Behandlung von Frauen mit Brustkrebs, insbesondere bei chirurgischen Eingriffen, bei denen eine vollständige Entfernung der Brust unumgänglich ist. Ziel dieses Projekts ist es, die Bedeutung der Psycho-Onkologie im onkologischen Behandlungsprozess und ihrer Arbeit mit Brustkrebspatientinnen zu beschreiben und zu diskutieren. Die Ergebnisse des Projekts deuten darauf hin, dass psychologische Faktoren die Art und Weise beeinflussen können, in der Frauen mit Brustkrebs Schwierigkeiten haben, die Diagnose und die in ihrem Körper stattfindenden Veränderungen zu akzeptieren. Dies weist auf die Bedeutung der psychotherapeutischen Beratung in Verbindung mit der medizinischen Betreuung hin.
